Dear Members, Sponsors, Students and Friends,

I wanted to inform you that our annual Spring Meeting of the Genesee Valley SAS Users Group will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 3 - 6 pm (registration begins at 2:30pm) at the RIT Inn and Conference Center [5257 West Henrietta Road, W. Henrietta, NY 14586].

We have a great program in store for you including (but not limited to) Great speakers, Prizes, Finger Food, Prizes, Networking, Prizes. Did I mention PRIZES? Yeah, well if you’ve ever been to one of our meetings you know that we usually give away a couple of books from SAS Publications, Backpacks, Goodies, etc. Also, we have our networking/break session which allows you time to mingle with your fellow SAS wizards and have a little food and drink (You can always stay on for SAS ‘N SUDS after the meeting if you like).

Presentations

Our keynote speaker is no stranger to the SAS Community. She is Karen Crandall and will speak to us on the “Practical Macro”.

This general talk will focus primarily on common uses for macro–why to use them, when to use them, how to use them. Macro language constructs don’t change much from one version to another, and a programmer’s use of them tends to settle in over time. Sometimes, however, a once-favored macro approach to solving a common problem gives way to an enhancement made to some other language component. This talk will look at one programmer’s approach to using SAS macro–how it stays the same and how it flexes when other SAS constructs offer alternative solutions.

Karen Crandall has been programming in SAS for 20+++ years. Karen has experience in a number of venues having worked for Eastman Kodak, Howard Proskin and Associates, Sigma Marketing, and currently for Bausch & Lomb. Karen has presented work at several SUGI and NESUG conferences, and has served on the GVSUG Planning Committee in the past.

We also have two other “local” Rochester metro persons who will give us some knowledge about 1) SAS/Graphs (Mapping in Particular) and 2) PROC Univariate (Including SAS v9.2 enhancements).
These persons are 1) Adam Rains, Executive Committee Member & GVSUG webmaster and 2) Joseph Guido (me) your GVSUG Executive Committee Chair.

Registration and Membership Renewal

As usual, pre-registration is encouraged. A registration form has been provided at the bottom of this post for current members and other potential attendees. Please note that if you are not currently a GVSUG member, you will need to submit this registration form as well as the membership application form shown on our Join page (please select “New Membership” as the subject line).

New annual memberships and renewals have gone up slightly from $15 to $20. Students and those unemployed still pay only $10. You can pay at the door on the day of the meeting by check or cash or mail your payment to our treasurer, Janet Albright.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thanks and hope to see you at the RIT Inn and Conference Center on May 14, 2009.

Sincerely,

Joe Guido, Chair
GVSUG
