News from the GVSUG Executive Committee

The GVSUG Executive Committee met on Monday, November 22 at MacGregors in Henrietta. We sampled several fine beers (see, you might want to consider being a candidate for Executive Committee) and made some important decisions!

First, we have begun planning the next GVSUG meeting. We hope to hold it sometime in March, 2005. We will let you know when we have picked the exact date. We will be sending out a call for papers soon — but don’t wait, if you would like to speak, please contact Paige or any member of the GVSUG Executive Committee. Did you know that speakers get $10 off from their yearly membership fee? Did you know that if we’re feeling nice, we give gifts to speakers?

We also are looking for a suitable facility to host the next meeting. We need a room that can hold 40 – 60 people and has a computer projection device. Availability of free parking is also a plus. If you have such a room at your location, please let us know.

We would like to hear from you, the members, on what you would like to see at such a meeting. Do you want a meeting devoted to a specific theme (and if so, what theme)? Or would you want a variety of topics at a meeting? The feedback from the last meeting indicated that most people enjoyed the interactive portions of the meeting, so we will be planning more of those. And finally, we have been scheduling meetings from 3:30 – 6:30pm. Is that a good time for you, or would you like to have the meetings at some other time. Let us know!

Accomplishments

Congratulations to two members of the GVSUG Executive Committee for their recent accomplishments!
  • Michael Molter has been invited to give a talk at SUGI 2005 on the subject of macros.
  • Michael Tomb recently passed the Advanced Certification test in SAS, making him only one of 156 people in the United States with such certification.
If any other members of GVSUG have recent accomplishments, please let us know!

Some Useful Links at SAS.COM and elsewhere

  • The 2005 SAS Software Ballot.
  • For you SAS 9.1 users, download a new experimental statistical procedure, PROC GLIMMIX, which fits statistical models to data with correlations or nonconstant variability and where the response is not necessarily normally distributed. Documentation here (PDF).
  • If you use (or are interested in using) SAS Enterprise Guide (a graphical user interface to SAS 9), check out the SAS Enterprise Guide Users Group, and their newsletter. Membership is free!
