PharmaSUG 2006 Recap
The Pharmaceutical SAS Users Group (PharmaSUG) was held in Bonita Springs, Florida, May 21-24 (excluding some pre- and post-conference activities) at the Hyatt Regency. Weather was not as high as last year's in Arizona (110 degree or so), but temperatures were in the upper 80s. The conference kick-off meeting on Sunday was an "Overview of the CDISC Landscape and an End-to-End Scenario", given by Anthony Friebel of SAS. This presentation showed how much CDISC seems to be growing in importance in the pharmaceutical industry, especially as it relates to FDA compliance/submission. Monday thru Wednesday attendees were enlightened by talks in tracks such as Applications Development, Coder's Corner, Data Management, FDA Compliance, various hands-on workshops, posters, Technical Techniques, etc. SAS Users were able to mingle at events like the opening night dinner, the SAS Institute sponsored mixer in the demonstration room, and game-night, which this year included SAS Bowl and a Texas hold'em tournament.
GVSUG members Adam LaManna and Bill Murphy attended and were very pleased with the seminars given before and after the main conference. Adam went to the "XML for SAS Programmers" seminar which gave a very good overview of XML, how SAS imports and exports data from/to XML, and how Proc CDISC factors into all of this. Bill attended the "SAS Programming for the Pharmaceutical Industry" seminar and picked up various tips of how data in our industry should be collected, analyzed, massaged, and programmed.
All the papers should be online in a few weeks at the http://www.pharmasug.org website. Stay tuned for details on PharmaSUG07 in Denver, Colorado next June 3-6th.
