Panning for Gold: Nuggets of Helpful SAS® Code

William Csont – GVSUG executive committee memberAs a SAS® system programmer of many years experience, there are several snippets of SAS code that I may occasionally or regularly use when writing new programs. I was not blessed with a photographic memory, but fortunately for me, a computer file remembers various incarnations of similar key SAS code that performs various activities. This paper will describe several of these nuggets of SAS code.

Examples in this presentation include:

  • use of a colon modifier to delete temporary datasets,
  • special use of the sum function for contiguous variables,
  • importing of a Microsoft Excel worksheet through use of DDE, a many to many merge that is performed using a data step
  • a method of printing placeholder output to the output window when a dataset has no values.

What else will this meeting offer?

  • PROC TRIVIA as presented by our very own GVSUG Vice-Chair, Michael Tomb (you’ll love this audience participation game)
  • Door prizes courtesy of SAS and NESUG
  • Appetizers and soft drinks provided by GVSUG

Directly after the meeting …
Join us for a SAS ‘n SUDS informal gathering at TGIF Restaurant located on the corner of East Henrietta and Crittenden Roads, directly across from Corporate Woods Complex.

Spring Meeting was a success!!!

Dear GVSUGers,

Although I slightly late with this post, I would like to send thanks to Karen Crandall, Adam Rains, Joseph Guido for presenting at the GVSUG Spring Meeting.  Karen gave a great keynote talk on “Practical Macro”.  Adam dazzled us with SAS/Graph and MAPS and Joe spoke about his latest Guido’s Guide (this iteration was PROC UNIVARIATE).  I would like to thank all who made this meeting a success (especially our treasurer, Janet Albright, who takes care of all the little details).  Also, thanks to the rest of the executive committee of Sue Greenberg, Debbie Birdsall, Sam Sanfratello, Mike Tomb (Vice-Chair), Adam Rains, Bill Csont.  Thanks especially to you (our members)!!!

Sincerely,

Joseph Guido, Chair
